Dense Fog Triggers Major Crash on Yamuna Expressway, 13 Dead as Multiple Vehicles Collide Near Mathura
A major road accident on the Yamuna Expressway claimed at least 13 lives early Tuesday morning after several buses and cars collided amid dense fog near Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. The incident occurred during the early hours when visibility on the expressway dropped sharply, making it difficult for drivers to react in time.
According to initial reports, multiple vehicles were moving at high speed when they suddenly encountered slowed traffic ahead. Due to extremely low visibility, several buses and cars rammed into one another, resulting in a massive pile-up. Some vehicles reportedly caught fire after the collision, worsening the situation and delaying rescue efforts.
Emergency services, including police teams, ambulances, and fire brigades, rushed to the spot soon after receiving the alert. Rescue operations continued for several hours as authorities worked to pull out injured passengers trapped inside damaged vehicles. The injured were immediately shifted to nearby hospitals, where several remain in critical condition.
Officials confirmed that identifying some of the victims has been challenging due to the severity of the crash. In such cases, DNA testing may be used to establish identities. Authorities are also coordinating with families of the victims and providing necessary assistance.
The accident led to heavy traffic congestion on the Yamuna Expressway, with vehicles stranded for kilometers. Traffic movement was gradually restored after damaged vehicles were removed using cranes and safety checks were completed.
Preliminary investigations suggest that dense fog and low visibility were the primary causes of the accident. Officials have once again urged drivers to strictly follow speed limits and avoid unnecessary travel during foggy conditions, especially in winter months when visibility can change suddenly.
The tragic incident has renewed concerns over road safety on high-speed expressways during adverse weather conditions. Experts emphasize that reduced speed, proper spacing between vehicles, and timely alerts could significantly reduce the risk of such accidents.
